Hibachi Catering for a Pool Party — Setup, Tips & Pricing

A hibachi chef next to the pool is one of the most popular party setups we do. Here's how to plan it right.

If there's one party setup that never fails to impress, it's a hibachi chef cooking next to the pool. The combination of live fire, fresh food, and a backyard pool creates an experience your guests will talk about for years. Here's everything you need to know about planning a hibachi pool party.

Why Hibachi and Pool Parties Work So Well Together

Pool parties already have a great energy — people are relaxed, the vibe is fun, and everyone's hungry after swimming. Adding a hibachi chef takes that energy and gives it a focal point. Guests gather around the grill, watch the fire show, and get freshly cooked food while the pool stays open. It works for any group size from 10 to 100+.

Setup Requirements Near a Pool

A few things to keep in mind when setting up hibachi near a pool:

  • Distance from the water — we set up at least 6–8 feet from the pool edge for safety
  • Flat surface — the grill needs to be on a level, stable surface. Pool decking, patio pavers, or grass all work
  • Space for the grill and chef — plan for a 10×10 ft area minimum for the setup and performance
  • Seating arrangement — set up guest seating around the grill in a horseshoe shape so everyone can watch the show
  • Wind direction — position the grill so smoke drifts away from the seating area and pool

Timing — Before or After Swimming?

Most pool party hibachi events are scheduled so guests swim first, then eat. This works naturally — people get hungry after swimming, and the grill becomes the centerpiece of the second half of the party. We typically recommend scheduling the chef to arrive about 15 minutes before you want cooking to start, which is usually 1.5–2 hours into the party.

Menu for a Pool Party

Our standard menu is perfect for a pool party — no modifications needed. Each guest chooses 2 proteins from chicken, steak, shrimp, salmon, tofu, or scallops. Comes with fried rice, hibachi vegetables, garden salad, and signature sauces. If it's a hot day, we'd suggest adding gyoza or edamame as pre-grill snacks while guests wait.
